The 25th International Symposium of the Sapporo Cancer Seminar Foundation |
---|
Dear colleagues and friends, The 25th International Symposium of the Sapporo Cancer Seminar Foundation will focus on the theme of "Toward Personalized Medicine in Cancer and Other Lifestyle-Related Diseases". The recent advent of genome research and information has paved the way to map the genetic factors that comprise various cancers and common diseases. A new discipline called molecular epidemiology is emerging, which focuses on the role of genetic factors as well as their interaction with environmental factors in the occurrence of diseases in human population. Accompanying is the new technologies that enable genome wide analysis of gene expressions and polymorphisms. These novel approaches have numerous applications in classification, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of various diseases. It is prospected that they will eventually lead to the realization of personalized medicine. The symposium will cover on the topics of: (1) leading concepts toward personalized medicine, (2) genetic polymorphisms associated with the sensitivity for anticancer drugs, (3) basic concepts in molecular epidemiology for lifestyle-related diseases, and (4) recent advances in molecular epidemiology for cancer and multifactorial diseases. I would like to ask many scientists and clinicians to attend the symposium and join the discussion of these interesting topics.
